Restoration

The main objective of the Latvian Railway History Museum’s restoration work is the preservation of the rolling stock, but it also comprises other objects: paintings, maps, rolling stock equipment and parts, as well as signalling and communication equipment.

In 2004, Staņislavs Baiko, board member of Latvian Railways (VAS Latvijas dzelzceļš) and the first deputy chairman, issued an order to establish the committee for the creation of a building, maintenance and restoration concept of the Latvian Railway History Museum’s rolling stock collection. The concept was developed and introduced on 15 March 2005, and it expected to restore several units of rolling stock each year. Since then, Latvian Railways has been allocating funding to restoration work every year.
